Shehbaz Sharif Thanks Trump for Facilitating the Ceasefire Between India and Pakistan

Islamabad—Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for the role, according to the Pakistani government, he played in facilitating the ceasefire between India and Pakistan reached in May 2025. Sharif acknowledged Trump's intervention and highlighted what he called a fundamental and historic role in preventing an escalation of the conflict between the two South Asian nuclear powers.

The Pakistani leader maintained that diplomatic efforts contributed to halting hostilities and preventing a potential massive loss of life. Trump has stated on several occasions that his intervention helped end the fighting and that millions of deaths could have been avoided.

The May 2025 conflict erupted after an attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, followed by military operations by both countries. After several days of clashes, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire.

Sharif's statement reinforces the close ties that Islamabad seeks to maintain with Washington and the Pakistani government's recognition of US involvement in de-escalating the crisis.
