WASHINGTON—The Pentagon has released a new batch of
declassified files related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs), including
recordings, images, and documents that had not previously been made public.
The material is part of the records compiled by U.S.
authorities to document and analyze unidentified aerial phenomena, some of
which have raised questions due to the characteristics of the objects observed.
Among the published files are audiovisual recordings and
documentation related to sightings that had been kept secret. The release of
the material aims to provide more information about the phenomena that have
been recorded by military personnel and other sources.
However, the existence of these files does not, in itself,
constitute confirmation that the objects have an extraterrestrial origin. US
authorities currently use the term unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) to
refer to certain sightings that could not be immediately identified.
The release of these documents has once again placed the UFO
phenomenon in the public eye and raises new questions about what other records
might remain classified and what conclusions US agencies have drawn from their
analysis.
