Florida Republican Congresswoman Kat Cammack publicly
endorsed claims made by political activist and commentator Laura Loomer, who
alleges that individuals with ties to the Qatari government have gained access
to the US Congress through internship programs.
During her remarks, Cammack stated that she believes it is
necessary to thoroughly investigate the allegations that internship or
legislative training programs may be used to facilitate the entry of
individuals who, according to these claims, could be acting on behalf of
foreign interests.
These allegations have reignited the debate in Washington
regarding the oversight mechanisms applied to internship programs within
Congress and the security controls implemented for temporary staff, advisors,
and collaborators who have access to legislative offices and sensitive
information.
Laura Loomer had previously asserted that citizens linked to
Qatar were brought into Congressional offices as interns, a claim later echoed
by Cammack when he requested that the relevant authorities review the case and
determine if any irregularities occurred.
