SPAIN – Reports of extreme violence after irregular entry across the Melilla border

Melilla, Spain. Amid growing migratory pressure at the border between Spain and Morocco, incidents were reported during an attempted mass irregular entry into the autonomous city of Melilla.

According to reports circulating on social media and various news outlets, a large group of migrants who allegedly managed to breach the border fence engaged in acts of vandalism, including setting several vehicles on fire. However, Spanish authorities have not yet officially confirmed these events, which Spaniards on social media claim is part of the government's unilateral decision to open the borders, even against the will of the people.

The day coincides with increased tension at the Ceuta and Melilla borders, where the Spanish government has only slightly reinforced security measures, barely noticeable according to citizen reports. Official reports also indicate that additional resources have been mobilized to contain the arrival of irregular migrants.

Authorities are maintaining surveillance operations in the border area while continuing to assess the extent of the incidents, according to the Spanish government. Official information is expected in the coming hours to confirm the number of people involved and any potential material damage.
