More than 300 relatives of those killed in the September 11,
2001 attacks have reportedly signed a petition requesting that Zohran Mamdani
not participate in the 25th anniversary commemoration ceremony to be held at
Ground Zero.
According to reports, the relatives are asking the
organizers to reconsider Mamdani's presence at the ceremony, arguing that his
participation would be incompatible with the solemn nature of the anniversary
and with the memory of the victims.
The petition comes as New York City prepares to commemorate
the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a date that each year brings together
family members, officials, and citizens at the site of the former World Trade
Center.
The initiative has sparked a new political debate
surrounding Mamdani and the way various public figures have addressed issues
related to the attacks, Israel, Palestine, and national security.
The petition represents the position of the family members
who signed it and not necessarily the position of all the victims' families or
the organizers of the ceremony.
