Hours after a fragile truce was announced, tensions
escalated again following multiple explosions at key Iranian energy
infrastructure sites. The incidents affected the refinery located on Lavan
Island, as well as strategic facilities on Sirri Island, both crucial for
Iran's hydrocarbon production and exports.
Iranian authorities indicated that the attacks were likely
caused by an external force, although they did not officially identify a
perpetrator. However, unverified reports point to the possible involvement of
the United Arab Emirates air force, which allegedly used Dassault Mirage 2000-9
fighter jets along with drones to carry out the attack.
In response, Tehran ordered a counteroffensive that included the launch of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles targeting the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. These attacks immediately activated air defense systems in both countries, raising the alert level and increasing the risk of a wider confrontation in the Gulf region.
The deteriorating situation highlights the fragility of
recent agreements and reinforces international concern about a potential
broader military escalation, with both geopolitical and economic implications
on a global scale.
