The disappearance of a 19-year-old woman sparked a massive
outcry among family, friends, and social media users in the State of Mexico after
she failed to return home after requesting a ride through a ride-hailing app.
The victim, identified as Ana Karen, had attended a party in
the municipality of San Antonio la Isla. After the event, she requested a
motorcycle through a ride-hailing platform to go home to Metepec. However,
although the trip was marked as "completed" within the app, the young
woman never arrived at her destination.
The situation quickly raised concerns among her loved ones,
who began circulating her missing person poster. For more than three days, her
case went viral on social media, where hundreds of people shared information
hoping to find her alive.
On March 3, authorities reported the discovery of a woman's
body in a vacant lot in Metepec. After initial examinations, the clothing and
physical characteristics matched those of Ana Karen, which was later confirmed
by authorities.
The investigation was taken over by the Attorney General's
Office of the State of Mexico, which opened a case for femicide. According to
initial official reports, the driver of the transportation service involved in
the young woman's last trip has been arrested and is under investigation while
the inquiries into what happened continue.
