Following the departure of Cuban officials from the country,
the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) inaugurated its first office in
Ecuador. The establishment of this office is part of an international
cooperation strategy focused on strengthening security efforts and combating
organized crime in the region.
The opening of this office aims to reinforce investigative
and coordination capabilities between Ecuadorian authorities and U.S. agencies.
Specifically, it seeks to more effectively confront criminal groups linked to
drug trafficking, as well as transnational networks involved in drug
trafficking, money laundering, and other illicit activities.
The FBI's presence in Ecuador will facilitate the exchange
of intelligence, the development of joint investigations, and technical support
for operations against criminal organizations. In this way, the country joins
other international cooperation initiatives aimed at weakening the structure
and operations of cartels that use Latin American routes to transport narcotics
to various markets.
This new step in security collaboration reflects Ecuador's
interest in strengthening its institutional mechanisms to combat the growth of
drug-related criminal activity and in consolidating strategic alliances with
international organizations specializing in criminal investigation.
