Disinformation After Iranian Drone Attacks: Official Figures Contradict Rumors of US Casualties

Amid escalating regional tensions, reports circulated on social media and some digital outlets claiming that Iranian drones had attacked an alleged CIA base in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, causing more than 650 casualties among US military personnel, including deaths and injuries. However, these claims have been labeled false and lacking official support.

According to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), the confirmed casualty count in attacks attributed to Iran against facilities linked to US forces in the region is considerably lower. The military authority has acknowledged the deaths of six personnel in total, in incidents that include attacks on bases such as those located in Kuwait, in addition to approximately 18 military personnel with serious injuries.

To date, there is no official confirmation that a CIA facility was targeted in Riyadh, nor that an event with the number of casualties initially circulated online actually occurred. Authorities have stressed the importance of verifying information before disseminating it, especially in a conflict context where propaganda and disinformation can amplify rumors.

Security experts point out that these kinds of exaggerated narratives often appear in scenarios of geopolitical confrontation, with the aim of generating alarm, confusion, or political pressure. Meanwhile, investigations into the actual attacks continue, and U.S. forces maintain enhanced security protocols at various facilities in the region.
