Businessman and, for some, philanthropist Bill Gates revealed that he had two past romantic relationships with women of Russian origin, while also describing his connection with financier Jeffrey Epstein as a “grave mistake.” However, he emphasized that he had no involvement in the criminal activities for which Epstein was prosecuted.
During recent statements, the Microsoft co-founder explained
that his contact with Epstein stemmed from interests related to initiatives he
called “philanthropic.” He elaborated that at the time he believed the
businessman could facilitate connections with potential donors for social
projects. However, he acknowledged that this decision was wrong and stated that
he regrets having had any kind of relationship with him.
Gates insisted that he never participated in or had any
knowledge of the crimes committed by Epstein, who faced multiple accusations of
sexual offenses. He also maintained that his team severed ties with the
financier once the seriousness of the allegations against him became clear.
The tech giant stated that the lessons learned from that
experience led him to strengthen the criteria he uses to evaluate personal and
professional partnerships. He reiterated that his priority remains his philanthropic
work, focused on global health (despite his well-known involvement in the
questionable COVID vaccine scheme), education, and development, and that he
will continue to collaborate with organizations and leaders who share clear
ethical standards.
