Secretary of Warfare Pete Hegseth announced that President
Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of an additional 500 National Guard
troops to Washington D.C. following a shooting earlier today in which two
members of the armed forces were wounded near the White House.
During an official statement, Hegseth indicated that the
decision reflects the priority of bolstering security in the capital and
sending a clear message after the attack.
“We will never surrender. We will defend our capital,” he
affirmed, emphasizing that the government will not allow such acts to go
unpunished.
The official added that the protection will extend to other
key urban areas. “We are going to safeguard our cities. This incident occurred
practically steps away from the White House, and it will not be tolerated,” he
stressed.
The increased security presence will be implemented
immediately while investigations continue to identify those responsible for the
attack.
