A relative of current White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Louisiana, immigration authorities confirmed.
The detainee is Bruna Caroline Ferreira, the mother of one
of Leavitt's nephews, who had been in the United States for 25 years beyond the
period authorized by her visa. According to initial reports, her case was
already on file in the immigration system due to a previous arrest for assault,
a record that reportedly expedited her current deportation proceedings.
Ferreira was taken to a detention center while her legal
status is being resolved, a process that could culminate in her deportation in
the coming weeks. Sources close to the case indicated that the family has been
notified and is evaluating legal options.
Although the White House has not commented on the case, the
detention has drawn attention due to the relationship with the top spokesperson
for the federal government. ICE officials stated that the procedure is part of
routine operations targeting individuals with outstanding deportation orders or
a history of immigration violations.
