Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) stated that
President Donald Trump is “eager and determined” to end the partial shutdown of
the federal government and restore full operations to the affected agencies as
quickly as possible.
During his appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” broadcast on Fox
News, Johnson emphasized that the president has held daily meetings with his
economic and legislative teams to accelerate negotiations with Congress,
seeking a budget agreement that will unlock federal funds and alleviate the
effects of the shutdown on workers and public programs.
“President Trump is deeply committed to resolving this
situation. He wants the government to resume operations as soon as possible,
but he also wants the new agreement to guarantee fiscal responsibility and
respect for taxpayers,” Johnson noted during the interview.
The Republican leader added that talks with Democrats are
“progressing slowly but constructively,” and insisted that the common goal
should be to protect the country’s interests without compromising the
administration’s economic principles.
The shutdown, which has affected hundreds of thousands of
federal employees and paralyzed various services, has become a new point of
political tension between the White House and the Democratic opposition.
However, Johnson expressed confidence that a bipartisan agreement could be
reached in the coming days, allowing government operations to resume and
administrative stability to be restored.
“The president is not looking to win a political battle—he
wants a real and lasting solution for the country,” Johnson concluded.
