US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the country must
evaluate the possibility of conducting nuclear tests to ensure its nuclear
arsenal functions properly and maintains its deterrent effectiveness.
During remarks to the media in Washington, Vance emphasized
that modernizing the US nuclear defense system cannot be limited to
technological upgrades, but must include “real-world performance checks” to
ensure the country’s strategic weapons remain safe and operational.
“The nuclear arsenal is the ultimate pillar of our national
security. We cannot simply assume it will function as expected without any
evidence to confirm it,” the vice president stated, insisting that the
credibility of nuclear deterrence depends on its technical reliability.
His comments come amid renewed global tensions and military
competition among powers, particularly with Russia and China, whose strategic
weapons programs are rapidly advancing. Analysts believe Vance’s remarks could
spark a debate within the administration and among U.S. allies about the highly
controversial possibility of resuming nuclear testing after more than three
decades of a moratorium.
