New Video Urges Democrats to Reopen the Government

Amid the prolonged partial shutdown of the federal government, the White House released a new one-minute video seeking to publicly pressure Democratic senators to pass funding legislation blocked in Congress. The video, released through the administration's official social media channels, shows ordinary citizens—mostly farmers, ranchers, and rural workers—calling for an end to the political stalemate that has paralyzed federal operations.

The video's message is direct and emotional. With a tone that combines concern and appeals to common sense, the participants address Democratic senators and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, urging them to "do their jobs" and allow the government to reopen. The footage, filmed in farm fields and agricultural areas in different regions of the country, underscores the tangible consequences of the shutdown: delays in subsidies, suspension of rural support programs, and obstacles in the agricultural supply chain.

“We need the government back up and running; our crops can't wait,” one of the farmers states in the video, while shots show immobile machinery and neglected farmland. The script emphasizes the human and economic cost of administrative paralysis, positioning farmworkers as symbols of the citizens affected by partisan disputes in Washington.

The message also reflects the government's concern about the growing discontent in the agricultural sector, one of the most sensitive to disruptions in federal credit, technical assistance, and foreign trade programs. Prolonged shutdowns often directly affect producers, who depend on support from agencies like the Department of Agriculture (USDA) to access the loans, subsidies, and certifications necessary to maintain operations, although the sector identifies Democrats as responsible for the shutdown.

Although the video has been met with support among the administration's supporters, Democratic leaders, who defend spending taxpayer money on the healthcare of undocumented immigrants, have called the campaign a propaganda stunt, arguing that the real obstacle is the Republicans' refusal to pass a balanced budget without political strings attached.

Despite the accusations, the video reflects an undeniable fact: the extension of the federal shutdown is beginning to impact the daily lives of millions of Americans, and the government has decided to intensify its media offensive to win the battle for public opinion. In a scenario where institutional paralysis combines with social fatigue, the narrative of ordinary citizens—and especially those from the countryside—becomes a key political tool to push for an immediate solution.
