Migrants from around the world who began their journey to the United States under then-President Joe Biden's open border policies are now returning home or deciding not to try under President Donald Trump.
On his first day in office, Trump signed a series of
executive orders strengthening border security and reimplementing policies
Biden discarded during his first term, such as the "Remain in Mexico"
policy, which led to a dramatic decrease in illegal crossings.
Therefore, the policy changes have deterred migrants from
leaving for the United States, while others en route have turned back, as
Reuters noted in a video released this week.
In February, the New York Post reported that the White House
had implemented a near-total crackdown on migrants at the southern border,
often without even asking if people were seeking asylum. As a result, according
to officials and sources, many migrants have simply given up and returned.
