On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court authorized the Trump
administration to keep several thousand probationary federal employees on the
payroll while lower courts consider the legitimacy of the reduction measures,
marking another victory for the White House in recent days.
The Supreme Court's ruling reverses a lower court's decision
that ordered the government to reinstate more than 16,000 probationary
employees.
The decision is not final on whether the staff will be
allowed to keep their jobs, but it will have a major impact on both workers and
agencies in the meantime, the New York Times reported.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented but did not offer reasons.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson argued that the court should not have decided
such an important issue in the context of an emergency request.
