From now on, administrations will not be able to prohibit oil and gas extraction without the consent of Congress

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed legislation 226-188 to prevent future administrations from banning oil and gas drilling without congressional consent.

The "Protecting American Energy Production Act" was approved by lawmakers in a vote on Friday, prohibiting the president from "declaring a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing unless authorized by Congress."

Republican House members voted unanimously to pass the legislation, while 118 Democrats voted against it.

Just weeks before leaving office, former President Joe Biden banned future oil and gas drilling on 250 million acres of coastal and offshore waters, among other oil and gas-related regulations. The bill builds on his actions.
