Representatives Judy Chu (D-Calif.) and Gwen Moore
(D-Wisconsin) unexpectedly burst into House Speaker Mike Johnson's office to
question him about Elon Musk's team's access to a Treasury Department payment
system.
Their intrusion occurred shortly after Treasury Secretary
Scott Bessent arrived at the president's office to discuss how to implement
President Donald Trump's tax agenda, amid a growing Democratic backlash against
Musk's takeover of the federal government. Moore, however, claimed that when
she and Chu confronted Johnson, Bessent was not present.
"Gwen Moore barged in, and then I was able to walk
right in behind her," Chu told reporters. "And she was already
confronting Speaker Johnson about Treasury Secretary Bessent and the theft of
Americans' private information—tax information that should never be stolen or
given to this billionaire Elon Musk."
