Bukele stated at the White House that his country will not return Kilmar Ábrego García

President Donald Trump met with El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele at the White House on Monday.

Things escalated when Trump, Bukele, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and advisor Stephen Miller took turns harshly criticizing CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins. Bukele asserted that his country will not return Maryland resident Kilmar Ábrego García to the United States after Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that the decision was up to his country, not the US.

The Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration must "facilitate" his return, but the administration and El Salvador affirmed that he will not return to the White House.

"How can I return a criminal to the US? Smuggle a terrorist?" Bukele asked before calling Collins' questions "absurd." Buckele stated that he will not release Ábrego García because he does not like releasing people from his prisons.
