Greenland's prime minister said the United States "won't get" the island

Greenland's prime minister declared that the United States "will not get" the resource-rich Atlantic island.

According to President Donald Trump, the annexation of the autonomous territory by Denmark—a US NATO ally—is necessary for national security.

"President Trump claims the United States 'will get Greenland.' Let's be clear: the United States will not get it. We don't belong to anyone else. We decide our own future," Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in a Facebook post.

Vice President J.D. Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah visited Pituffik Space Base, the Department of Defense's northernmost military installation, in Greenland on Friday.

According to the Associated Press, Trump stated in an interview with NBC on Saturday that the use of military force to acquire Greenland was a possibility.
