President Donald Trump announced new investment and liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchase commitments to boost the Alaska LNG Project, an energy initiative that will represent one of the largest infrastructure projects in the state's history.
Trump indicated that the Republic of Korea will allocate $50
billion to this infrastructure as part of its trade and investment agreement
with the United States.
He also stated that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick
secured a liquefied natural gas purchase commitment from Taiwan of between $70
billion and $80 billion, corresponding to the projected supply for the next 20
years. This agreement will represent approximately 30 percent of the gas that
the project would transport during that period.
Trump also affirmed that Taiwan agreed to invest an
additional $4.4 billion in capital for the development of the initiative,
which, according to his statement, is now a project of the U.S. federal
government.
The president stated that the project has all the necessary
permits and authorizations to begin development, and emphasized that the
announced commitments will contribute to strengthening the United States'
energy infrastructure and trade relations with its Asian partners.
The initiative seeks to leverage Alaska's natural gas
resources and develop the infrastructure needed for their processing,
transportation, and export to international markets, particularly those in
Asia.
