SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS—Legendary former Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens introduced President Donald Trump at a rally held Wednesday in San Antonio, where the president participated in a campaign event supporting Republican candidates in the lead-up to the midterm elections.
Addressing the attendees, Clemens expressed his pleasure at
participating in the event and praised the U.S. president.
“What a privilege it is for me to be here and introduce our
great president, a man who loves our country, who puts everyone first, and who
puts America first,” the former baseball player stated.
Trump publicly thanked Clemens for his participation and,
during the same event, announced that he would award the former pitcher the
Presidential Medal of Freedom, one of the highest civilian honors in the United
States.
Clemens, known as “The Rocket,” won seven Cy Young Awards
during his 24-season Major League Baseball career. He played for, among other
teams, the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, and Houston
Astros.
Clemens' appearance came during Trump's rally in San
Antonio, organized to support Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton in Texas,
as part of the campaign for the November elections.
