Trump Proposes Changing New Mexico's Name to "New America"

WASHINGTON—US President Donald Trump has sparked a new debate by suggesting the possibility of changing the name of the state of New Mexico to "New America."

In a message posted on his social media accounts, Trump claimed that several people had suggested modifying the state's name, which he described as having a long history of "election fraud."

"New America. Much more prestigious and beautiful for the people of that potentially incredible state," the president wrote, referring to the proposal.

The statement generated reactions and opened a new discussion about the identity and name of one of the southwestern states, whose name has a long historical connection to Mexico and the region's Hispanic heritage.

For now, the proposal remains a suggestion publicly mentioned by Trump and does not imply an official change to the state's name.
