WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump highlighted the results of
his endorsements in Tennessee, stating that his candidates won by a wide margin
in the primaries held the previous night.
In a message, Trump indicated that his endorsements resulted
in eight wins and one loss, although he clarified that he maintained his
support for a candidate who, he acknowledged, faced little chance of winning.
“Last night was another good night for endorsements, 8 to
1,” the president stated, explaining that the only loss was to someone he chose
to remain loyal to despite their slim chances of winning.
Trump specifically referred to former Tennessee Agriculture
Commissioner Charlie Hatcher, who faced another candidate endorsed by the
former president.
The president used his message to publicly reiterate his
support for Hatcher and urged him to continue his aggressive campaign.
“Good luck, Charlie! Run a strong and determined campaign!
You have my full and unconditional support!” Trump declared.
The message reflects the president’s strategy of maintaining
an active presence in the electoral contests and using his endorsements to
influence the selection of candidates within the Republican Party.
Trump closed his message with his signature: “President
Donald J. Trump.”
