Damascus – The Syrian government has appointed a Turkish
citizen as the new commander of the Syrian Army's 62nd Division, as part of a
broad restructuring of the armed forces.
The appointment is part of a series of changes to the Syrian
military structure, through which the government seeks to reorganize and
strengthen its operational capabilities.
So far, Damascus authorities have not released further
details about the new commander's duties or the scope of the ongoing
restructuring.
The decision comes amid transformations within Syrian
military institutions, as the country continues to face security challenges
after more than a decade of armed conflict.
