US President Donald J. Trump issued a new warning to the
Islamic Republic of Iran, stating that any attack on ships in the Strait of
Hormuz would be met with US military action against Iranian strategic
infrastructure.
In a message, the president affirmed that if Iran attacks a
ship in that maritime area using missiles, rockets, drones, or any other type
of weaponry, the United States will respond by bombing and destroying a bridge
or a power plant on Iranian territory.
Trump indicated that these targets could even be located in
or near the country's capital, Tehran, reiterating his stance of a direct
response to any aggression against shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the
most important maritime routes for international oil trade.
The statements represent a further hardening of the US
president's rhetoric amid tensions with Iran and the reassessed strategic
importance of the Strait of Hormuz for global energy security.
