A massive forest fire has put Spain on high alert after
ravaging large areas of the province of Almería. According to the latest report
from authorities, at least 11 people have died and 19 remain missing, while
search and rescue efforts continue in the areas most affected by the advancing
flames.
The blaze spread rapidly due to high temperatures, dry
vegetation, and adverse weather conditions, which hampered the work of
emergency teams. Hundreds of firefighters, forestry brigades, Civil Protection
personnel, and support staff are participating in a large-scale operation to
contain the fire and protect the population.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been
caused by a downed power line. However, authorities have indicated that the
exact cause will be determined once the corresponding investigations are
completed. In addition to the fatalities and missing persons, numerous families
have had to evacuate their homes as a precaution due to the risk posed by the
advancing fire. Authorities are also assessing the damage to homes,
infrastructure, and thousands of hectares of vegetation affected by the blaze.
While efforts to control the fire continue, emergency
services remain hopeful of finding the missing alive and preventing further
tragedies. The Spanish government has mobilized all available resources to
address what is considered one of the most serious emergencies in the region in
recent years.
