States—Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk reacted on social media to former White
House medical advisor Anthony Fauci's decision to invoke the Fifth Amendment to
the U.S. Constitution during a hearing before lawmakers.
In his post,
Musk argued that Fauci resorted to this constitutional recourse out of fear of
incriminating himself and to avoid potential legal consequences stemming from
his sworn testimony.
The magnate
asserted that the former official chose to remain silent to avoid a possible
perjury charge, given the contradictions in his statements regarding the origin
of the COVID-19 pandemic and the funding of research linked to the Wuhan
Institute of Virology in China.
Musk's
comments come amid an ongoing debate that continues to generate conflicting
