New economic data has placed the United States at the center of the political conversation, after the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) registered annualized growth of 3.4% during the third quarter of 2026, surpassing the forecasts of specialists, who expected an increase of around 3.1%.
The
result, released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), represents an
acceleration compared to the 2.2% growth registered in the second quarter of
the year.
The
growth was mainly driven by household consumption, business investment, and
government spending, factors that contributed to maintaining the dynamism of
the US economy. Another great achievement for President Donald Trump that has
surprised everyone.
The
publication of these figures takes on special significance as it occurs on the
eve of the midterm elections, in a context where economic performance is one of
the central themes of the political debate.
Although
economic indicators do not by themselves determine the election result, GDP
growth represents a relevant data point for evaluating the economic outlook preceding
the elections.
