Europe's major airports and airlines issued a warning to
European Union authorities on Wednesday about the problems being caused by the
implementation of the bloc's new border control system. According to the
sector, the mechanism is already causing significant delays and operational
complications, a situation that could worsen with the increased passenger flow
during the summer holiday season.
Representatives of the airline industry indicated that the
new control scheme is slowing down the processing of travelers at entry and
exit points of the European area, increasing waiting times and hindering the
normal operation of airports and airlines. They warned that, without urgent
measures, millions of passengers could face long lines, flight delays, and
potential cancellations during one of the busiest periods of the year.
Given this situation, the sector called on European
institutions to intervene immediately and adopt solutions that will ensure
smoother border crossings, preventing operational problems from leading to
chaos for travelers. The companies maintain that a swift response will be key
to preserving the efficiency of air transport and minimizing the impact on
tourism and the continent's economy.
