North Carolina, USA. A large security operation was deployed
this Monday after 88 inmates staged a riot inside a regional jail in Windsor,
where they managed to seize control of part of the facility after overpowering
prison staff.
According to initial reports, the inmates surprised the
guards and managed to take control of a section of the detention center,
forcing authorities to activate emergency protocols to contain the situation
and prevent the incident from spreading to other areas of the prison.
During the events, two security officers were held hostage
by the inmates, while a third guard managed to escape and alert authorities,
allowing state agencies and specialized teams to be mobilized to address the
emergency. The reasons for the uprising and the condition of the detained
officials have not yet been released. Authorities are continuing their efforts
to fully regain control of the prison and ensure the safety of both staff and
inmates.
The incident has generated concern among state authorities,
who have launched an investigation to determine how the inmates managed to
subdue prison staff and take partial control of the facility, as well as to
clarify whether there were any lapses in the prison's security protocols.
