U.S. official Kristi Noem has officially left her post as
head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after being appointed to
a new role within regional security policy. She will now serve as Special Envoy
for the so-called Shield of the Americas, an initiative focused on
strengthening security and cooperation throughout the Western Hemisphere.
According to the announcement, this strategy will be
formally presented next Saturday in Doral and seeks to coordinate efforts among
different countries in the region to confront common threats such as organized
crime, drug trafficking, and irregular migration.
Following Noem's departure from the department, U.S. Senator
Markwayne Mullin has been appointed to lead the DHS. With this appointment,
Mullin will be responsible for leading the country's domestic security
policies, particularly those related to border protection and immigration
enforcement.
According to the official statement, the new secretary will
work to strengthen border controls, combat crime linked to irregular migration,
and confront those who enter the country illegally with criminal records. He is
also expected to promote stronger actions against drug trafficking and other
illicit activities that affect national security.
Authorities emphasized that Mullin's experience and
commitment will be key to advancing the goal of strengthening U.S. domestic
security. With this change in leadership at DHS and the creation of the new
regional initiative, the government seeks to consolidate a broader strategy to
address the security challenges impacting both the country and the region.
She has officially stepped down from her position as
Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), after being reassigned
as Special Envoy for Shield of the Americas, our new Western Hemisphere
Security Initiative, which we will announce Saturday in Doral.
Senator Markwayne Mullin replaces her as Secretary of
Homeland Security:
"Markwayne will work tirelessly to keep our border
secure, stop immigration crime, murderers, and other criminals who illegally
enter our country, end the scourge of illegal drugs, and make America safe
again. Markwayne will be an excellent Secretary of Homeland Security. Thank you
for your attention!"
