Tension in Downing Street: Keir Starmer's Government Faces Rumors of an Internal Labour Coup

London, United Kingdom – The British Prime Minister's Office is on high alert following reports of a possible internal coup attempt within the Labour Party, allegedly led by members of the cabinet itself.

According to government sources cited by British media, concern is growing amid speculation that Wes Streeting, the current Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, is mobilizing support within the party to challenge Prime Minister Keir Starmer's leadership at a time of political tension and internal discontent.

Although Streeting categorically denied any conspiracy, asserting his "absolute loyalty to the Prime Minister and the Labour Party," the reports have sparked a political storm in Westminster and set off alarm bells at the heart of the government's power structure.

The rumor comes amid increasingly visible divisions within the ruling party. Disaffected Labour lawmakers accuse Starmer of over-centralizing policy decisions and distancing himself from the progressive base that brought him to power after the Conservatives' resignation.

Several MPs from the party's moderate and progressive wings have privately expressed concern about the government's declining approval ratings, as well as its handling of the health and economic crisis, which has eroded the Prime Minister's popularity.

"Patience within the Labour Party is wearing thin. Many feel that Starmer has lost touch with voters and that bolder leadership is needed," commented a political analyst at the Guardian Institute for Policy Research.

At 42, Wes Streeting is considered one of Labour's most influential rising stars. Hailing from the party's moderate wing, he has cultivated an image as a pragmatic and reformist politician. However, his rapid rise has generated unease among Starmer loyalists, who perceive him as a potential threat to the leadership.

The controversy erupted after some Downing Street advisors detected private meetings between Streeting and a group of MPs critical of the Prime Minister, interpreted by some within the party as part of an attempt to consolidate support for a future leadership challenge.
