President Donald Trump undoubtedly feels justified in
deploying the National Guard and other military personnel to Los Angeles to
quell the riots that erupted over the deportation of undocumented immigrants.
Initially downplaying the unrest, Los Angeles Police
Department (LAPD) officials were forced to acknowledge the out-of-control
situation and their need for assistance on Monday, following two days of unrest
in the city due to federal immigration enforcement operations.
On Sunday night, LAPD officials declared the protests an
"unlawful assembly" as demonstrators refused to disperse in the
city's downtown area.
Central Division reported on X: "The rioters have
dispersed in the city center. Downtown residents, businesses, and visitors
should be alert and report any criminal activity. Officers are responding to
multiple locations to disperse the crowds."
