The House of Representatives approved the elimination of Medicaid funding for transgender surgeries

President Donald Trump's sweeping fiscal and spending budget, affectionately known as "a big, beautiful bill," eliminates Medicaid funding for transgender surgeries. This measure will affect a large portion of these procedures if passed in the Senate.

The reconciliation budget, narrowly passed in the House of Representatives early Thursday morning by a vote of 215 to 214 and 1 to 1, would have initially prohibited Medicaid from covering "gender transition procedures" for children, until an amendment, published Wednesday night, removed the words "minors" and "under 18" from that section, The Independent reported.

Gender transition treatments that would no longer be covered include puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries, Breitbart explained.
