A federal court ruled in favor of the Trump administration,
resolving a disagreement with New York Attorney General Letitia James over the
broad scope of the spending-cutting measures to examine U.S. Treasury payments,
which they consider excessive.
James was one of 18 Democratic attorneys general who filed a
lawsuit to halt the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency's investigation
into the Treasury's payments system. The group suffered a major setback on
Tuesday when U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas of the Southern District of
New York eased the final legal hurdle for the four DOGE employees handling the
investigation.
A previous court order was also lifted when the Trump
administration demonstrated it had adequately instructed the four employees to
protect confidential taxpayer information during the investigation. Vargas
granted access to a DOGE employee in April after he completed similar training.
