Death penalty for alleged CEO killer if convicted, Pam Bondi announced

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Tuesday that Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of the CEO, will face the death penalty imposed by the Department of Justice.

If Mangione is convicted of capital murder, Bondi said she will instruct Matthew Podolsky, acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, to seek the death penalty in the case.

Mangione is charged at both the state and federal levels in the alleged shooting of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, in Midtown Manhattan in December. He has pleaded not guilty to the state charges. Mangione was charged in a federal criminal complaint but has not yet been indicted on those charges.

Mangione's attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, said she discussed the ruling with the Department of Justice./CBrief
