The Democratic Party is poised to regain control of the US House of Representatives, according to election projections from Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ), released during the November 3, 2026 midterm elections. The forecast represents a potential shift in the political balance of the US Congress.
According to the DDHQ model, Democrats have an 84%
probability of securing a majority in the House, with a projected 241 seats,
compared to 194 for Republicans. To control this institution, at least 218 of
the 435 seats are required.
The potential regaining of a Democratic majority would
represent a legislative setback for Republicans, although not a decisive one,
because it's worth remembering that many Republicans have voted against
President Trump's initiatives. If this trend is confirmed in the election
results, Democrats would have greater capacity for budget negotiations and
oversight of the federal government's actions.
They could also acquire a more prominent role in
congressional investigations and hearings, potentially diminishing their
ability to continue dismantling criminal activities, as has been done in the last
two years.
However, it is important to note that DDHQ's figures are
projections based on their electoral model and should not be confused with
final official results. Control of the House of Representatives will depend on
the vote count and the confirmation of victories in the various electoral
districts across the country.
