Donald Trump Jr. again questioned the role that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) played for years in Latin America and asserted that, since its dismantling, the left has failed to win a presidential election in the region.
In a social media post, the son of the US president claimed
that billions of US taxpayer dollars were allocated for years to
non-governmental organizations, democracy-related programs, and activist
networks.
However, these resources allegedly did not simply represent
international cooperation programs, but rather ended up politically favoring
certain sectors. Trump Jr. described this practice as a form of "election
interference."
In the post, he also acknowledged Elon Musk for helping to
expose the workings of these types of programs and questioned how US public
funds were used abroad.
"The deception
is over," Trump Jr. concluded his message.
The statement comes after the Trump administration
drastically reduced USAID's operations. The agency, historically responsible
for administering a large portion of U.S. foreign aid, underwent a major
restructuring and the cancellation of numerous programs throughout 2025. Trump
Jr.'s remarks reopen the debate about the limits of U.S. foreign aid and where
international cooperation ends and political influence begins.
