A report published by The Wall Street Journal revealed that
Israel has shared new intelligence with the U.S. government pointing to an
Iranian plot to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the publication, the reports delivered to U.S.
authorities indicate that sectors linked to the Iranian government are
evaluating new actions targeting the president, amid persistent tensions
between Washington and Tehran.
Without directly mentioning Iran, Trump alluded to the issue
during a public event in Ankara, where he asserted that it is one of the main
targets of those seeking to harm U.S. interests.
"They want to take out the American leader, me. I'm on
all the lists. So far I guess I've been a little lucky, but maybe that won't
last much longer," the president declared. The president's remarks come
amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where relations
between the United States, Israel, and Iran remain marked by diplomatic
clashes, military operations, and mutual accusations related to regional
security.
The report has reignited the debate about the risks faced by
senior U.S. officials in the current international context and about the role
of intelligence services in preventing potential attacks against political
leaders.
