Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, publicly
expressed her gratitude to US President Donald Trump following the capture of
former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whom she described as a
"narco-terrorist dictator." During her remarks, Rodríguez asserted
that this event marks the beginning of a new era for the country and opens the
door to political and institutional reconstruction.
The interim president emphasized that cooperation with
Washington will be fundamental to stabilizing the situation in Venezuela and
advancing toward a national recovery process. In this regard, she pledged to
work to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and security relations between Caracas
and the United States, with the goal of fostering a period of greater stability
and development.
Rodríguez also affirmed that her administration will seek to
establish a bilateral relationship based on strategic collaboration and mutual
respect, noting that both countries can work together in key areas such as
regional security, international investment, and the recovery of Venezuela's
productive sectors. The statements came as U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum
observed the meeting, which was interpreted as a sign of Washington's interest
in supporting the political transition process currently underway in the South
American country.
This rapprochement could mark a significant shift in
relations between Venezuela and the United States, after years of political
tensions, economic sanctions, and diplomatic clashes between the two
governments. According to Rodríguez, the new context offers an opportunity to
rebuild trust and usher in a new era of cooperation that will benefit both the
Venezuelan people and the stability of the region.
