An individual is being held responsible for an unusual and
dangerous incident that occurred Thursday morning in Meridian, where he
allegedly stole an ambulance from St. Luke's Health System and drove it into an
office building.
According to the report issued by the Meridian Police
Department, the emergency vehicle was removed without authorization from the
hospital and then driven toward the North Portico building, part of the same
medical complex. The building houses offices of the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security, which heightened authorities' concerns about the nature of the
incident.
Following the collision, the suspect allegedly attempted to
set the ambulance on fire, creating a high-risk situation for both the
personnel and bystanders. Emergency services responded quickly to control the
scene and prevent further damage.
The incident was initially reported by local news outlet
WJAR, and authorities are continuing to investigate the motives behind the act
and the potential charges the suspect will face. No serious injuries have been
reported so far.
The investigation remains open, and police have not ruled
out any hypotheses regarding the incident.
