A new poll suggests the race for governor of New York could
become a highly competitive contest if Republican Representative Elise Stefanik
secures her party's nomination. According to the survey, Stefanik trails
incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul by only three percentage points, a margin that
reflects a tight race.
The study was conducted by the independent market research
firm J.L. Partners, which surveyed 500 likely New York voters. In a
hypothetical matchup, Hochul would garner 46% of the vote compared to
Stefanik's 43%, while 11% of respondents remain undecided, The Hill reported,
citing the results.
The data suggests that, should Stefanik's candidacy
solidify, the election could depend heavily on the behavior of undecided voters
and the mobilization of party supporters. Analysts believe the narrow margin
reflects a competitive political climate in the state and anticipates an
intense campaign should the two candidates face each other directly at the polls.
