Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a resolution classifying several groups linked to Antifa as foreign terrorist organizations. With this decision, the Trump administration seeks to expand the government's legal and operational tools to limit the financial, logistical, and organizational support that—according to its statements—sustains the activities of these groups.
Rubio stated that this measure aims to strengthen the
State's capacity to act against organizations that, in the government's
judgment, represent a direct threat to national security. The official
statement details the following:
"The State Department has added four Antifa factions to
the list of foreign terrorist organizations and to the category of Specially
Designated Global Terrorists. The United States will continue to employ all
available instruments to safeguard our nation against groups that we consider
anti-American, anti-capitalist, and anti-Christian."
This decision, according to the Department itself, seeks to
support stronger surveillance, economic sanctions, and operational restrictions
aimed at limiting the reach of these groups.
