While the federal government was shut down and millions of
Americans faced wage losses, temporary unemployment, and food shortages,
Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett has faced harsh criticism for her
lavish lifestyle during the crisis.
According to reports in national media, Crockett spent much
of the shutdown traveling and staying in exclusive destinations outside her
district in Texas, racking up expenses that some consider excessive. Public
records and social media posts show a series of stays in different cities
across the country, but no significant presence in Dallas or Houston, the main
areas she represents.
Critics inside and outside Congress accuse her of being out
of touch with the hardships of her constituents, many of whom suffered the
consequences of the government shutdown. “She seems to be everywhere except
where she should be —with her people—, making sure she is catered for and
maintaining a flawless image, while the country suffers,” commented one
political analyst.
Her expense report is outrageous!:
- $4,175 at the Ritz-Carlton
- $2,304 at The Luxury Collection
- $5,326 at The West Hollywood Edition
- $1,173 at The Times Square Edition
- Over $2,000 at The Cosmopolitan and Aria Resort in Las
Vegas
- $2,703 at The Edgartown Inn
- $3,160 at The Coco
- $2,728 with Transportation 4 U limousine service
- $2,310 with DCA Car LLC
- $1,254 with Bay Area Limousine
- $50,000 for security
Although the congresswoman has not directly responded to the
accusations, her press team issued a brief statement assuring that all expenses
were in accordance with Congressional ethics and budgetary rules. However, the
episode has reignited the debate about the lack of empathy and responsibility
of some elected officials in times of national crisis.
