Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan proposed that his
country serve as the host of a future summit between Russia and the United
States, in an effort to revive diplomatic channels that could contribute to
ending the armed conflict.
"It is a shame that the meeting in Budapest did not
take place. We firmly believe that all dialogue is valuable when it comes to
ending a war. Since the beginning of this crisis, we have worked for the
possibility of a just peace, offering our mediation and promoting understanding
between the parties," the Turkish president said during a press
conference.
Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey maintains constructive
relations with both Moscow and Washington, which, according to him, places the
country in a strategic position to facilitate diplomatic rapprochement.
"We are a state that both sides trust, and that trust gives us an
advantage that we intend to use for the benefit of humanity," he
concluded.
