• The California governor acknowledges his interest in
running for the Democratic nomination, although he clarifies that he has not
yet made a final decision.
Sacramento, California – California Governor Gavin Newsom
has surprised everyone by publicly confirming that he is considering a possible
presidential bid for the 2028 election, although he clarified that he has not
yet formally decided whether he will enter the race. This is despite the fact
that he is in the spotlight of public criticism for the destruction of the
presidential nomination he has achieved during his administration.
In an interview broadcast on "CBS News Sunday
Morning," Newsom was directly questioned about his interest in seeking the
Democratic Party nomination. The governor responded frankly: "Yes,
otherwise I'd be lying. I'd just be lying. And I'm not doing it; I can't do
it," he acknowledged.
Although he avoided announcing an official campaign, his
statements confirm the speculation that has been circulating for months in the
US political landscape about his possible leap into the presidential arena.
Political observers have noted that Newsom has increased his national
visibility through media debates, but has been met with disapproval by citizens
who have followed his poor performance for Californians.
The governor, considered one of the most influential figures
in the progressive Democratic wing, has been seen as a potential successor
within the party, especially among his party's young and urban voters. However,
Newsom insisted that his immediate priority remains managing California, one of
the most economically and politically powerful states in the country, yet
defeated in security, the imposition of woke culture, and the attempt to
maintain now-defunct policies such as climate change, among a long list of
public criticisms against him.
If his aspiration materializes, Newsom would join a growing
list of Democratic figures considering their participation in the 2028
presidential race, in a scenario that promises to reshape the party's political
leadership after the Biden era and its exposed spirit as a party of the radical
and destructive left.
