The Supreme Court ruled that states can stop funding abortion providers

The U.S. Supreme Court dealt a severe blow to the abortion industry by allowing states to defund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.

In its 6-3 ruling in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, the court recognized that states have the authority to determine who is eligible for Medicaid funding and may instead fund groups that provide comprehensive and effective medical care.

For seven years, South Carolina's Republican Governor Henry McMaster has maintained state policy of not using taxpayer money to subsidize abortion clinics. South Carolina was represented in the Supreme Court by the Alliance Defending Freedom, which received support from a broad coalition that included the federal government and 18 states.
