The Supreme Court will hear an appeal over a limit on the amount of money political parties can spend on behalf of candidates

The Supreme Court decided on Monday to hear a Republican-led appeal against U.S. campaign finance regulations that limit the amount of money political parties can spend on behalf of specific candidates.

The case, National Republican Senatorial Committee v. Federal Election Commission, was initially brought before the court by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), and two Republican Senate candidates running for office at the time, including current Vice President J.D. Vance.

It concerns whether federal limitations on political party campaign spending violate the free speech guarantees established in the First Amendment of the Constitution.
